We’ve been talking about supporting others and helping them become what God intended by encouraging and helping. Well, I have a small story from my writing life to illustrate that.
I won’t bore you with the actual details, but suffice it to say, I found a good, clear-cut, easy way to promote my books on a big social media site. There is very little time that I’m not trying or doing something to promote my books, and I hang out with a bunch of other Christian authors trying and doing the same thing.
So recently I hit upon something that actually worked (what a concept! And those in the book-slinging business know what I’m talking about when I say that isn’t always easy!). I tried it for several weeks, and it was working very well. Then one day people were talking about trying to get their books to a wider audience, so I shared my little concept with them.
It took off like a rocket shot!
Now not everyone experienced a huge increase. Some experienced nothing at all, and like everything, I can never tell exactly why something works with one book and not another. (Probably the same concept as why one weight loss thing works with one person and not another! At least that’s my take on it.)
Well, for those some that this worked for, I’ve heard a couple of them say how much better their books are doing because of it. One of my friends hit a best seller list, and one of her friends did too.
This is so fun to me because I know what achieving that long-held dream of hitting a best seller list can mean to a person.
Of course, it’s hard to explain that hitting it once doesn’t mean the book will stay there forever, but that’s okay. They will find that out.
Just know that as you become whole in your relationship with God and as you begin to focus on “encouraging one another,” you will get to see your friends succeed as well, and that’s a side bonus you may not realize was coming.
In my opinion, celebrate like crazy with them! Cheer them on even more! Announce their success! That will help cheer others along, and you will be teaching the encourage one another principle by modeling it for others to see!
Living gets so fun when you start getting some of this right!
