“And soon all the world will see

Living Water is found in Me

’cause you come to the well…”

This is one of the most interesting lines in the song because of what I believe was a very specific choice of wording on the part of the writers.

The first time I heard it, my reaction was, “YES!  THEY GET IT!!!!”

For a moment, think about how this line would normally be written, “And soon all the world will see Living Water is found in Me because…” why?

Most of the time people would write because “you CAME to the well.”

In other words, because you went to the well once, you were healed and everyone will see that.

What I LOVE about this line is that the writers didn’t fall the for the “easy” line, they went for the deep line.

Let’s get real here for a second.  People don’t often recognize Christians in daily life.  Why?  Well, unless we’re wearing a cross on a necklace, we often look just like everyone else, right?  And isn’t that sad?

One of the things several of my friends have noted about me is that I don’t “witness” about Christ.  Christian is how I live.  My “witness” is my life, and I’m not talking about the outward stuff I do–like playing in the choir or teaching Sunday School.  I’m talking about when someone asks about how I promote something or how I write, somewhere in the answer is almost always going to be something about God scheduling my days or how God inspired this part of the book or that article.  This is not calculated.  I can’t help it.  It really is how I think.

Last week I had a challenging situation come up, and my brain went round and around the angles of it.  But almost every angle led me back to a lesson from God.  When I “meditate” on a situation or a problem, I think it through using lessons I’ve learned and lessons I’m learning.  In short, I go to the well with it.

I have gone to the well so often, it looks like the little trails my dog has worn into the grass in our backyard.  Grass doesn’t grow down my trail to the well anymore, and all the “rocks” are worn smooth.

But the cool thing is, my friends have noticed the path because I walk it when we talk.Eternity new ad 1-2014

“This happened and then this happened….”

“Now, wait just a second.  Do you see what that’s teaching you?  Have you thought about how God’s in the middle of this?”

What I’m saying is that others see that Living Water is found in Jesus not because I have gone to the well (in the past) but because going to the well, right now in the present, is always my go-to answer.  Don’t be a “gone to the well Christian.”  Instead be a “go to the well Christian.”  Make going to the well part of how you live, and not just when you sit down for Bible time or when you go to church.  I’m talking all the time, every day, out loud.  In your heart.  In your head.  Make that your first option rather than the last one when nothing else has worked.

Not only will that help YOU, but your children and your spouse will see it.  Your friends and your co-workers will see it.  It will make a difference in how you handle situations and how situations handle you.

Come to the well, and then come again and again.  Very soon Living Water will be overflowing in your life like a stream in the desert!
